Extremely sad times this morning at the Northampton Reptile Centre when Percy, our shop pet, was discovered this morning, passed away in his vivarium.
He had been ill for a few days after experiencing a problematic compacted sperm plug. Even a trip to our local exotic vet yesterday was not enough to save him.
He was a lovely lizard, with a fantastic personality and seemed to enjoy being in the first vivarium, by the door, to greet all NRC visitors.
So, below are a few memories from the time we spent with him.

Sorry for your loss guys, rest in peace Percy. The video of him eating locusts off your face is so cool – the chameleon tongue is incredible!
Thanks Keir, it’s always the worse thing about any pet. Yes, the ‘side on’ shot of his tongue coming out looks so good, wish I had the ability to film in super slo-mo!

Gary, that is always rough to lose a beloved animal. I wish you all the comfort that words can bring.
Thanks John, it’s just one of those things that as ‘animal people’ you have to get used to. But you do become attached to your favourites for sure.
So true my friend. To honor Percy could you send us a pic of him for the cover of our next Herpetoculture House eZine which has two Chameleon articles in it.
That sounds like a nice idea. I have some great high resolution photographs of him. I have something else to get over to you by the 18th so I will send it over with that. Thanks John.
Sorry to hear your sad news. Thinking of you.
I am so sorry to hear that Percy passed away.
sounds like poor old percy had more than a sperm plug the vet must have missed something .
i highly recommend the Scott’s Veteninary Clinic 405 goldington road bedford tel 01234-261622 I know that the vet’s are in bedford but they have two dedicated exotic’s vets ask for Natalie or Suzanne i wouldnt trust any other vet with my lizards or snake or parrot
It was a plug that got trapped and then got infected. It was unfortunate and unlucky as he passed most of them perfectly. It was pretty clear in the post mortem too.
Scott’s is very good and I also recommend them, but Rhodes in Northampton also now has a fully qualified exotics vet and are very good.
we remeber percy arriving in the shop,he was a beautiful chameleon and we will miss him as well,so sorry for your loss
