For a while now we’ve been trying to think of a way of giving something back to you to say thank you for your support over the years. Last week we launched our reptile V.I.P membership rewards, and I just wanted to make sure you all know about it.

Reptile V.I.P membership  is our way of saying thank you for shopping with us. It is free to join and it’s a great way to get something back – simply for doing your reptile’s shopping with us.

How does it work?

As a member, you will collect 1 point for every pound you spend in Northampton Reptile Centre (store, not online), OR in any of the Realm of Reptiles stores (coming soon).  Your points can then be used later on to get money off your purchases. For every 100 points you collect you will be able to redeem £1.

Double & triple points days

As a reptile V.I.P member you’ll be invited to exclusive days where all products are worth either double, or even triple points. A great way to build up your discount.

Gold, silver & bronze membership

As you collect points you will reach targets that will promote you to a higher membership status. Everybody will start as a bronze member, but our most frequent visitors will soon move into silver, or even gold, membership and get even greater rewards.

How do you get a reptile V.I.P membership ?

You can sign up for reptile V.I.P membership with any purchase in the Northampton Reptile Centre store. You will receive a free reptile keyring that you will be able to use as your member I.D across all stores.

You will also be able to sign up in the Realm of Reptiles stores that will be opening soon. In the future you will also be able to sign up for membership online and use on our website.

2010 was a busy year for everybody at Northampton Reptile Centre. In fact the shop got so busy we had to extend it! Smashing down a few internal walls has made the shop, I guess, 50% bigger!

I really, really, really, REALLY want everybody to come and see the changes we’ve made. So, we’ve decided to give away 200 boxes of livefood this month. On Saturday 22nd January 2011, the first 200 people who come to see us in the Northampton shop will get a free box of livefood. That includes crickets, locusts, mealworms and waxworms!

To get your box, print the voucher below (or print page) and bring it with you on the 22nd. Because I don’t know what food everybody will want, I will order in a selection. If the size or type of food you want has ran out, get over it, and take something else. It’s free, so don’t moan!

One of the best things about managing Northampton Reptile Centre is getting to meet all the people who come through the shop door. I’m a reptile fanatic myself so enjoy chatting to folk about their pets. I also see this as good opportunity to meet new reptile keepers and catch up with ‘old ones’. They are collection only from the shop and on a first come first served basis. Like all of our animals, you have to have the right setup before you’ll be allowed to purchase them.

Hello, Sam here! Many of you know I haven’t been at work for a while as I’m recovering from an operation. I’m well on the mend now but I am missing the shop and customers!

I thought to keep in touch I’d tell you all about how I got into reptiles and about some of my animals at home.

My interest started 11 years ago when I asked my mum to get me a snake for Christmas… she was terrified! Luckily I persuaded her to get over her fears and I was finally allowed my first snake, a Western Hognose. My mum then became so enamoured by her that our collection at home started to grow.

Next, we had a couple of Leopard Geckos and then a Cornsnake that was a rescue. My mum got so involved with our reptiles, she sold her business and after a lot of research and learning she began Sam’s Species Reptile Rescue and Sanctuary.

We now have over 450 reptiles in our home! This includes monitor lizards, iguanas, various dragons, tortoises, snakes all the way up to  big burmese and rock pythons. We also have a lot of arachnids and amphibians. My main passions in the reptile world are big snakes and monitor lizards especially Burmese pythons and Savannah monitors.

I have had a lot of success with breeding reptiles during my time at the shop and also at home. I have bred collared lizards, various geckos, tortoises, chameleons, Rankins and bearded dragons, corns and king snakes and common boas.

Its not just herps in our collection though, we have a few parrots, ferrets, pygmy hedgehogs, dogs and cats as well. I have also had a lot of experience in the parrot world too, being lucky enough to hand rear some very exotic birds.

When I’m not working as the Northampton Reptile Manager, I’m helping mum with all the animals at home, so you could say it has taken over my life!
