We all assume geckos are peaceful, family pets. But have you ever tried to handle a tokay gecko? They are mean! These guys needed moving to their new vivarium recently. Usually folk will move tockays using thick gloves, but we prefer to coax them into boxes. It’s trickier, but we find it’s a gentler approach.

Win a King British Turtle and Terrapin hamper! Your turtle will love you for it!
Our friends at King British have kindly donated 6 Turtle and Terrapin hampers for us to give away to you guys. Jolly decent of them. To decide who gets them I thought we should have a little competition! Well, with an estimated street value (RRP) of over £20 each, it needs to be done as [...]
Waxy Monkey Tree Frogs in captivity
The waxy monkey tree frog Phyllomedusa sauvagii is also known as the Chaco Leaf Frog. Common name(s) aside, these are interesting frogs more for intermediate keepers than beginners. Some of their requirements are slightly harder to recreate and are unusual for amphibians. The best way to understand these frogs is to look at their natural [...]
Did you know you can grow your own reptile food at home?
I have always had an interest in gardening, my dad and grandmother both grew fruit and veggies in the garden and I loved picking the fruits of their labours (particularly strawberries when Nan wasn’t looking!) my aunty would take me to the local pick your own farm (PYO) to gather berries for her jam making, [...]
Uromastyx – The Incredible Agamid with a Funny Name
I remember well when I first met Uromastyx. It was during a stint at a local independent reptile and fish store where I had taken the position of assistant manager. At the time, I had only been in the reptile industry a few years and was the editor for the San Diego Herpetological Society newsletter. [...]
Pacman Frogs – An amphibian with attitude
If you’re from the UK, like me, you’ll be very familiar with the gentile pond frogs (Rana temporaria) we get over here. They kinda sit there, you put one in your hand… they kinda still sit there. Occasionally you’ll find one of the randy little fellows humping your goldfish, but in all honesty (and as much as I [...]

Sad News: Percy, our Panther Chameleon died today
Extremely sad times this morning at the Northampton Reptile Centre when Percy, our shop pet, was discovered this morning, passed away in his vivarium. He had been ill for a few days after experiencing a problematic compacted sperm plug. Even a trip to our local exotic vet yesterday was not enough to save him. He [...]
Here’s some recent reptile videos you may have missed. You choose what’s next!
How better to get a feel for reptiles on the internet than watching videos of them? I try to upload as many as I can to our YouTube channel, but, thanks to somebody (Lois) breaking the video camera I haven’t been able to do any for a couple of weeks while it is being repaired. [...]
Want your very own piece of Royalty? Get a Royal Python!
Whether you know them as Royal Pythons or Ball Pythons, Python regius seem to have been just about everybody’s first step into the realm of Pythons. It’s easy to see why; relatively speaking, they are an inexpensive snake & not demanding for a responsible keeper. Their captive care is now something which is almost standard, [...]
