How to hint you want a reptile for Christmas!

Firstly, I must apologise for using ‘the c word‘ whilst still in the middle of October. But, ‘Christmas’ is now only a mere 9 weeks away!

Now, I know there are many of you out there who are gagging to get your first reptile this year or add to your existing pet collection. So, how do we make sure our loved ones get the hint and get us reptiles?!

What I do is, find what I want online, and then leave that page open on the computer. Over the years, I would give this technique roughly a 78% success rate. There was one year though, when I was very disappointed with the Boa I got. Although the feathers do feel nice on my skin.

I needed some new ideas. So I asked our friends on Facebook how they subtly hint, see what you think of these.

Brad Peck – “Oh i do love reptiles, shame i haven’t got one, ohh isn’t crimbo soon!” haa.
Conor BedfordErm just talk about reptiles around your parents alot and do your research thats all I did LOL.
Stephanie GouldI would say-‘I was looking at this amazing (blank) at the northampton reptile centre the other day, its so stunning and it only costs this much, wouldnt it look so cool over there….’ 🙂
Kayleigh HebdenI didn’t drop subtle hints, i just gave him beer…!!!
Rob CarmichaelSubtle never seems to work for me…just go for the direct approach!
Gotta-be DreamingIf it’s getting a male to buy just feed him then ask, but if female avoid flowers she will only ask wat ya done wrong, personaly id just say I really need one and saves you getting me a huge pressie when ya can get me one that will last 🙂
Jade MillerDon’t Tell Them That The Reptiles Eat Live/Frozen Food . . . .Worked 4 Me!
Tracy HallI don’t drop hints – I just say I would like please! Got me a parrot after 3 years!! I’m still working on him for a Crested Gecko!!
Daniel CattenBuy mum a salad spinner and then comment how snug a snake might feel in it.
Cat BakerSubtle hints doesn’t do it for me either i am afraid, i just have to go out and get them myself. Well, using the OH’s bank card 😉
And then when he complains, i just “subtley” bring up the amount of time/money spent on the xbox and a lacking of attention in the bedroom area..if you catch my meaning.. Usually shuts him up pretty sharpish 😉

Shane Williams How about …’Honey u know u said u’d get me that faux skinned bag/shoes/coat (delete as applicable) for Xmas ..well found out the real thing is cheaper at Northampton Reptile Center…how cool is that ?’
Jo Jeynes I booked coach tickets to Hamm in December… Huw took the hint! 😉
Jeremy BrodiePut an empty viv next to the chimney instead of a stocking.
Kerry CrossWinge then go in shop and say look there cute, then do a pet lip.

Hmmm, some ‘interesting’ ideas there.

How do you hint? Please leave us some more ideas in the comments box on our blog. Also, I’ll get some gift ideas and packages together over the next few weeks so any suggestions for those are welcome!

Since I have started keeping reptiles, my mom just gets me a $50 pets mart gift card. I buy bedding supplies and crickets with it. Mostly, I’m not comfortable having someone else shop for something for me. I’d rather someone give me a statue than something for my reptile cages or another reptile. I picked most of my reptile pets in person, except the hatchlings I’ve raised.
