Which Species Suit a 2ft Vivarium?

A 2ft vivarium is a practical, great value starting point for a wide range of small reptiles and invertebrates. The compact size is well suited to juvenile snakes including corn snakes, milk snakes and kingsnakes, as well as smaller lizards such as leopard geckos and African fat-tailed geckos. Western hognose snakes are also a good fit given their modest adult size. For invertebrate keepers, a 2ft enclosure can work well as a secure, easy to maintain habitat.

It's worth keeping adult size in mind when choosing. Some species listed above will be comfortable in a 2ft vivarium long term, while others, corn snakes in particular,  will need a larger enclosure as they grow. If you're planning ahead, check the adult size requirements for your specific species before committing to a size. We stock 3ft vivariums as well as 4ft vivariums.

The range includes both tall and shallow options, which matters depending on what you're housing. A taller enclosure suits species that benefit from more vertical space or elevated hides, while a shallower footprint can work better for ground-dwelling species where floor space and heat gradient are the priority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Vivexotic Repti-Home and ProRep vivariums in this range?

Both are well-made wooden vivariums, but they differ in design and build. The Vivexotic Repti-Home uses a more traditional wooden construction with 15mm panels, locking screws and easy-access vents, and has the added benefit of being stackable, making it a good choice if you're housing multiple small reptiles. The ProRep uses a lighter build with an aluminium corner frame, thinner side panels and full-height sliding glass doors for an unobstructed front view.

Are 2ft vivariums suitable for adult reptiles?

It depends on the species. Some smaller reptiles, such as Western hognose snakes, leopard geckos and fat-tail geckos, can live comfortably in a 2ft vivarium as adults. Others, including corn snakes, will outgrow this size and need a larger enclosure once fully grown. Always research the adult size and space requirements for your specific species before choosing an enclosure.

Can the 2ft Vivexotic Repti-Home vivariums be stacked?

Yes. The Vivexotic Repti-Home range is designed to stack, and you can combine units in multiple ways to make the best use of your space. This makes them a particularly good option if you're planning to house several small reptiles and want a neat, space-efficient setup. Stacking options and pre-built stack bundles are available in this range.

How do I choose between a tall and shallow 2ft vivarium?

The key factor is your animal's natural behaviour and environmental needs. A taller enclosure gives more vertical space, which can be useful for species that benefit from elevated hides or varied temperature zones at different heights. A shallower, wider footprint tends to work better for ground-dwelling species where floor space and a clear warm-to-cool gradient are more important than height.
