Locusts as Reptile Food

Our locusts are part of the staple livefood natural diet for many reptiles and amphibians. They are easy to catch, highly nutritious and quite easy to digest, making them perfect for daily feeding. They are dispatched directly from the breeder and will be gut-loaded before packing to make sure that they are as nutritious as possible on arrival.

Adult locusts are the perfect size for bearded dragons, water dragons, geckos, turtles, monitor lizards, chameleons and many insectivorous invertebrates (e.g. mantis and tarantulas). In the store we use the adult locusts to feed our bearded dragons, water dragons, adult turtles and adult chameleons.

You'll love them because:

  • We guarantee freshness or your money back.
  • They are farm-bred in ethical conditions.
  • They are pre-fed to ensure your reptile is getting a healthy and nutritious meal.
  • Delivered straight to your door in good time.

Packaging

Every tub has small air holes for ventilation, ensuring the insects stay secure but still get plenty of airflow. Inside, a section of egg-box cardboard provides room for the bugs to move around comfortably, helping to avoid overcrowding. When temperatures rise in warmer months, we may add extra perforations to the outer packaging for improved cooling. In colder months, we often include a heat pack to help maintain a stable temperature during delivery.

Feeding Guide

To keep adult locusts in top condition, feed them a healthy diet of appropriate insect foods right up until your reptile is ready for a feeding.

  • Offer fresh leafy greens, carrots, squash, or sweet potato, these provide hydration and essential nutrients.
  • You can also use specialist insect foods or gut-loading diets to boost their nutritional value for your reptile.
  • Remove any uneaten food daily to keep the enclosure clean and prevent mould or decay.

Well-fed locusts make for excellent food and are far more beneficial, helping support your reptile’s health and digestion. For more information on their diet please consult our livefood care sheet. If you’re looking for other types of reptile food, we also stock frozen, animal-specific, vegetation and supplement options suitable for reptile and amphibian diets.

Animal Suitability

We recommend adult locusts for the following animal types:

  • Bearded dragons
  • Water dragons
  • Monitor lizards
  • Chameleons
  • Adult turtles

Care Instructions

Keep adult locusts in packaging at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or cold areas. Add fresh food at regular intervals to keep them healthy and active.

Avoid overcrowding, especially if you're housing them with other locusts or crickets.

Looking after your live food properly helps ensure your lizard or other pet gets the best nutrition possible.
