Natural History

Burmese pythons are a massive species of snake found in Southeast Asia, and invasively in Florida. These snakes can frequently reach up to 4m in length. The largest individual found was 5.4m long! Burmese pythons are one of the largest species of snake found in Asia and one of the largest species of snake worldwide. Females of the species tend to get a little bit longer and a lot heavier.

Burmese pythons are most easily identified by large black or brown splotches running down the spine and along the flank, bordered by tan or yellow/green. They have been available to keep in captivity for a long time and albino snakes are often available which present with yellow splotches bordered by a creamy white outline.
