Tokay Gecko Care Sheet

Natural History

Tokay geckos are a gorgeous species of arboreal lizard found in India, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh,Southeast Asia, Phillipines, Indonesia, New Guinea and Melenasia. They are normally found in rainforests where they mostly live in the trees. They are quite territorial and will make noise throughout the night to communicate their territory to other geckos. The bark sound they make kind of sounds like Tokay which is likely where the name came from.

They are usually a grey or blue colour with bright orange or red spots all over their back and head. Unlike other similar looking arboreal geckos the tokay has a reputation for being very quick and a bit more aggressive. Individuals have tamed down well but generally speaking they are a little harder to tame than crested, day or gargoyle geckos.
