Tricolor Hognose Snake Care Sheet

Natural History

The tricolor hognose is a small colubrid snake from South America. They have been found in areas of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia. Though they don't particularly look like a the other mimics this species is also trying to imitate the venemous coral snake as a basic defence mechanism.

As with the American western hognose this snake has a hardened scale on the front of its face, primarily used to burrow. They are very similar in temperament though they tend to sit and wait for prey rather than chasing it down.
