Mini Mealworms as Reptile Food

Our mini mealworms are part of the main livefood diet for many reptiles and amphibians.

They are easy to catch, highly nutritious, but high in fat. Our mini mealworms are part of the main livefood diet of many reptile and amphibian diets. Live mealworms make a great treat for your reptile or amphibian once or twice a week. They are dispatched directly from the breeder and will be gut-loaded before packing to make sure that they are as nutritious as possible on arrival.

Mini mealworms are very small, so they are the perfect size for baby reptiles, small amphibians, fish and many insectivorous invertebrates (e.g. mantis and tarantulas). In the store, we use the mini mealworms to feed all of our baby bearded dragons and geckos. They are also particularly good for dart frogs and toads.

You'll love them because:

  • We guarantee freshness or your money back.
  • They are farm-bred in ethical conditions.
  • They are pre-fed to ensure your reptile is getting a healthy and nutritious meal.
  • Delivered straight to your door in good time.

Packaging

This product comes in a ventilated plastic tub with small air holes along the sides to ensure airflow while keeping the worms securely inside. During warmer months, the outer cardboard box may include extra perforations to help keep the contents cool. In colder months, we may add a plain white heat pack to maintain a suitable temperature during transit.

Feeding Guide

If you want to keep the mini mealworms as nutritious as possible, we recommend feeding them a healthy diet right up until they're used.

  • Offer fresh leafy greens, carrots, squash, or sweet potatoes; these provide hydration and essential nutrients.
  • You can also use specialist insect foods or gut-loading diets to boost their nutritional value for your reptile.
  • Remove any uneaten food daily to keep the enclosure clean and prevent mould or decay.

Well-fed worms make for excellent food and are far more beneficial, helping support your reptile’s health and digestion. For more information on their diet, please consult our livefood care sheet. If you’re looking for other types of reptile food, we also stock frozen, animal-specific, vegetation, and supplement options.

Animal Suitability

We recommend mini mealworms for the following animal types:

  • Tree Frogs
  • Baby Chameleons
  • Small Spiders
  • Baby Bearded Dragons
  • Baby Leopard Geckos
  • Baby Crested Geckos

Care Instructions

Keep mini mealworms at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or draughts. Add fresh food at regular intervals to keep them healthy and active.

Avoid overcrowding by providing size-appropriate housing with plenty of hiding spots and space to burrow.

Looking after your live food properly helps ensure your lizard or other pet gets the best nutrition possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amphibians can eat mini mealworms?

Mini mealworms are ideal for small amphibians like dart frogs, fire-bellied toads, and young newts. They’re best offered as part of a varied diet. Always make sure the mealworms are appropriately sized for your pet.

How do I store them after they arrive?

Keep mini mealworms in their ventilated tub at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. They don't need refrigeration, but add a small piece of vegetable like carrot to keep them hydrated and healthy. For longer storage, mealworms can be kept in the refrigerator (ideally 42–55°Fr/ 6–13°C).

What nutritional benefits do live mini mealworms have for baby bearded dragons?

Mini mealworms offer protein and fat, which support growth in baby bearded dragons. They’re best fed occasionally alongside softer, more digestible insects. You should always monitor feeding to avoid impaction risks.

Is it safe to feed mini mealworms to wild birds?

Yes, mini mealworms are completely safe for insectivorous birds and garden birds! They’re the larvae of darkling beetles and offer a great protein boost. They are especially suitable for feeding nestlings and fledglings.

Why choose your mini mealworms over others on the market?

Our live mealworms are of good quality, freshly packed, gut-loaded, and part of a trusted range used daily in our own Reptile Centre.
