Dischidia nummularia is an epiphytic climbing plant that belongs to the genus Dischidia. It has tiny, opposite lens-shaped leaves, and is frequently seen on the trunks of trees. In the wild it is found in India, China, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Australia. It is commonly referred to as string-of-nickels or button orchid.
This plant is a rare and unusual tropical epiphyte. It is best placed on a background or in branches and allowed to hang down. The plant should be kept evenly moist with a well-draining substrate. The plant can tolerate a variety of lighting conditions but it is best to avoid direct light and heat.
This plant would be a great addition to any aboreal terrarium as it would provide ample hiding space for the animal.
