Vriesea fenestralis - Small
Vriesea fenestralis is a Brazilian plant known for its striking, wide, ribbon-like leaves that curl and are finely lineated with shades of green and yellow on the top and spotted with maroon on the underside. This variety, which can grow up to 24 inches in height and spread, has a full, open rosette shape and produces a tall, pale yellow spike when blooming. When in bloom this plant produces a beautiful maroon flower.
Vriesea can be cultivated in a similar manner as air plants since they are epiphytic by nature. Their roots are used to attach to rocks, bark, and soil. Water the plant medium/lightly when dry. Most of the water for the plant is absorbed through the central reservoir to prevent root rot. If the temperature is higher, more frequent watering is necessary to maintain humidity. When watering, it is best to fertilize by spraying or adding fertilizer into the central reservoir.
