Many reptiles and amphibians regularly enjoy waxworms as part of their livefood diet.
They are easy to catch, highly nutritious, but high in fat, so they’re a great treat for your reptile or amphibian only once or twice a week. They are dispatched directly from the breeder and will be gut-loaded before packing to make sure that they are as nutritious as possible on arrival.
Waxworms are average-sized, so they are the perfect size for small to large reptiles, small amphibians. In the store, we use the waxworms to feed all of our bearded dragons, leopard geckos and other lizards as a treat.
We guarantee freshness or your money back.
They are farm-bred in ethical conditions.
They are pre-fed to ensure your reptile is getting a healthy and nutritious meal.
Delivered straight to your door in good time.
Waxworms are delivered in a ventilated plastic tub with small air holes to allow airflow while keeping them secure.
During warmer months, the outer cardboard box may include extra perforations for cooling. In colder months, we may add a plain white heat pack to help maintain a stable temperature during transit.
If you want to keep the Waxworms as nutritious as possible, we recommend feeding them a healthy diet right up until they're used.
Offer fresh leafy greens, carrots, squash, or sweet potatoes; these provide hydration and essential nutrients.
You can also use specialist insect foods or gut-loading diets to boost their nutritional value for your reptile.
Remove any uneaten food daily to keep the enclosure clean and prevent mould or decay.
Well-fed waxworms make for excellent food and are far more beneficial, helping support your reptile’s health and digestion. For more information on their diet, please consult our livefood care sheet. If you’re looking for other types of reptile food, we also stock frozen, animal-specific, vegetation, and supplement options.
We recommend waxworms for the following animal types:
Blue Tongue Skinks
Bearded Dragons
Monitor Lizards
Leopard Geckos
Crested Geckos
Pacman Frogs
Tree Frogs
Keep waxworms at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or draughts. Add fresh food regularly to keep them healthy and active. Avoid overcrowding by providing size-appropriate housing with plenty of hiding spots and space to burrow. Yes, waxworms are the larvae of the greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella), and are a great treat that many reptiles and amphibians love! While they’re not ideal as a staple food due to their high-fat content, they’re excellent for encouraging picky eaters or helping underweight animals bulk up. Fed occasionally alongside other livefoods like insects, offers a varied and nutritious diet.
Keep waxworms cool - ideally around 13–16°C - to slow them down and stop them turning into wax moths and escaping the container or causing an infestation. A wine cooler or fridge door works well, but do not freeze. Make sure the tub has airflow and stays dry. Store them right, and they’ll last for weeks!
Yes! Waxworms are also an excellent food for amphibians, wild birds, and even fish species like trout. Their soft bodies, rich protein content, and high fat levels make them a popular choice among anglers too. Whether you're feeding a pet or preparing bait, waxworms are a versatile livefood option.
Leopard geckos and bearded dragons benefit most from waxworms as a highly nutritious treat, especially as they develop when underweight or recovering. Additionally, insectivorous reptiles like anoles, turtles, and some snakes can also enjoy them occasionally.
