About Western hognose snakes

Western hognose snakes are small and popular pet snake in the UK. They will only get to around 3-4ft in length but remain very slender making them easier to handle than pythons or boas. They usually have a great temperament and are very easy to feed and care for which makes them a great choice for first time keepers. This species is particularly interesting due to the 'shovel' on their face allowing them to burrow and manipulate their environment.

Western hognose snakes only need to feed once a week or fortnight depending on how large they are which means they require very little upkeep. As they don't feed often it means that waste also accumulates slowly and with daily spot cleans you might only need to fully clean the enclosure once every 4-6 weeks. The hognose snake will need fresh water every day.

Western hognose snakes can be found in many reptile shops all over the counrty and are often presented with many different colour and pattern morphs. It's easy to provide the perfect environment at home for a hognose snake. Northampton Reptile Centre have everything you will need and have expert staff who can help you every step of the way.
